Showtime is a Opensource media player built with psl1ght, intended to be used on HTPC (Home Theater system Personal Computer) media centers to PS3. It is primarily intended to be controlled via keypad input such as a IR or bluetooth remote control, keyboards, etc.. but works also very well with a pointer device.
Showtime can browse and play files from Local file system, UPnP/DLNA servers, such as PS3 Media Server, MediaTomb, MiniDLNA or Window Media Player, and Webdav - HTTP servers.
Quick overview of Showtime features:
- Playback of video and audio, all file formats supported by libav (libav.org).
- Playback from DVD drive VIDEO_TS DVD folders or direct from ISO files.
- Playback MP4/Avi Movies, Audio/Video streams, Youtube (Downloadable Plugins).
- Javascript plugins.
- Unified search, Just type the keywords in the search bar and Showtime will search all media sources that have been configured.
- View photos and images in slideshow mode.
- Live TV streaming from Tvheadend.
- Spotify integration.
Video output: Showtime on PS3 has been tested with 576i, 720p and 1080i video resolutions, If it not correct for you it can be adjusted under Settings -> Display and UI settings.
Keyboard: Plugging in a standard keyboard in the PS3 USB port works and is currently the only way to input characters. No virtual keyboard is supported at the moment.

*Youtube and Downloadable Plugins:
Showtime allow to install a plugins. For example Youtube Plugins (Thanks to the work of Fábio Canada), To install it just enter the plugin section (the jigsaw puzzle icon on the home screen) and select "Available plugins" and Youtube should be available to you. If it does not show up in the available section you could try again after restarting Showtime.

That due to how the PS3 audio frameworks applications can not output raw digital bitstreams, So Showtime still needs to decode the audio and than the PS3 will reencode the audio in the best available encoding mode the user has selected (or don't do any encoding at all if 8 channel PCM is available).
Fixed a major memory leak that manifested itself when rendering fonts with outline (which is default for subtitles). So if you watched a movie with subtitles the memory would drain and Showtime would eventually crash.
Another thing is the increase of packet buffer to 40MB in conjunction with some adjustments to socket buffers, etc. This should hopefully make streaming over lousy wireless connections better.
