PSP - PopsLoader Plugins Guide v3.

Popsloader is Playstation One / Sony PSX console plugins as an emulator, which allows to load PSX games onto PSP console. Popsloader alone isnt enough to load games, this tutorial is to make PRX files are needed from dumped firmware releases for the PSP, are also needed for the rendering the games.

This is done with a utility called psardumper - or you can obtain the prx files from another source, Google is your friend on this. In this guide we use "Popsloader Installer" by PRO Team. Finally the PSX games need converting from ISO to EBOOT. This can be done with PSX2PSP tools and then you need to copy the EBOOT folder to the ms0:/PSP/GAME/ on the memory stick.

Upon the first execution of a PSX game, you will be presented with a list of pops versions you can use. These are the dumped files from the PSP firmware releases required for the seamless play of PSX games on the psp. There are so many versions because not all of them work for all games.

It may be a case of trial and error to see which pops version works with a particular PSX game. 3.30 and 3.50 generally work best but this is not always the case. If you find the PSX game does not run correctly, Hold down the Right trigger button as you press X to select a different version.

Otherwise it will simply load your previously selected version of pops and behave in the same undesireable way. The good news is. 99% of all PSX games will run on the PSP, with the correct POPS version running in tandem.

Popsloader Installation Guide
In order for Popsloader to run the PS1 emulator from an older firmware, it needs to make PRX from the OFw Eboots - [OFw download, please see the link in the file readme.txt], use Popsloader Installer to extract the pops files are needed.

Step 1: Popsloader Installer Usage.
  • Download and Copy the Popsloader Installer folder to ms0:/PSP/GAME/. [ef0:/ for PSP-GO].
  • Rename the OFw necessary.. as xxx.pbp... for example: EBOOT.PBP from OFw6.39 renamed as 6.39.PBP.
  • Then Copy xxx.pbp to the root of your memory stick, ms0:/.. [ef0:/ for PSP-GO].
  • Run the Popsloader Installer from your XMB game menu, and press X.

--- All needed OFw download: ---
302.PBP, 303.PBP, 310.PBP, 311.PBP, 330.PBP, 340.PBP, 350.PBP, 351.PBP, 352.PBP, 371.PBP, 372.PBP, 380.PBP, 390.PBP, 393.PBP, 396.PBP, 401.PBP.

500.PBP, 501.PBP, 503.PBP, 550.PBP, 551.PBP.
600.PBP, 610.PBP, 620.PBP, 635.PBP, 639.PBP, 6.60.PBP.

The Popsloader Installer will automatically extract all the OFw into modules folder, ms0:/seplugins/popsloader/modules/. After extracting, you can delete all OFw from the ms.

Step 2: Popsloader Setup.
  • Copy the popsloader folder and the popsloader.prx file into your ms0:/seplugins/ folder.
  • Create new txt file called pops.txt to ms0:/seplugins/.
  • Now add the line "ms0:/seplugins/popsloader.prx 1" or "ef0:/seplugins/popsloader/popsloader.prx 1" in case of PSP-GO, to your file pops.txt.
For LCFw by Neur0ner: Extract file popsbridge.zip and put the file pops_bridge.prx in the directory /seplugins/, and add the line ms0:/seplugins/pops_bridge.prx 1 to the file pops.txt. ex:

ms0:/seplugins/pops_bridge.prx 1
ms0:/seplugins/popsloader/popsloader.prx 1

Your memstick should look like this: ms0:/ - ef0:/.
--seplugins/
----popsloader.prx
----pops.txt
----popsloader/
------popscore.prx
------modules/ ...all the files you got earlier
------daxheaparea.prx

Step 3: Enable Plugins.
Goto Recovery menu > Plugins > on your PSP and enable Popsloader plugins. [Hold R-Trigger while turn on PSP or Press Select to open vsh menu and enter Recovery menu.]

Popsloader is installed! Restart your psp and hold R-trigger while starting a psx game and you’ll see a firmware selection screen.. After you have selected your Pops version, your PS1 game will boot using those Pops files. It will save this preference unless you hold R-trigger again.

Also visit the PSX on PSP Compatibility list to find out which POPS version works best with which PSX game.

If your game doesn't boot and you want to change the Pops version, just hold the R-trigger right after you launch the game. Alternatively, if you want to reset all of your Pops so you get the version select screen like you did when you first run it, delete the file "ms0:/seplugins/popsloader/CONFIG.BIN" from your memstick.

Enjoy using Popsloader and playing your PS1 games!
